Reading the "great ball purge" was hilarious. Well done. I think we share a similar style and with any luck you'll check out my page, enjoy it or give feedback. Nonetheless I subscribed and am glad I did!

It's wild that all those ball pit horror stories were just urban legends! I definitely remember diving into Chuck E. Cheese ball pits as a kid and it was pretty fun!

I will say that there are a two exceptions where the ball pit still seems to live on that I left out of this article:

- In the last five(ish?) years, there's been an uptick in ball pits catered primarily for adults that seem to mostly function as Instagram photo ops (The Color Factory in NYC and The Pop Air! Balloon Museum in Paris are two that immediately come to mind)

- There seems to be a growing demand for ball pit rentals, a la the inflatable bouncy houses people sometimes rent for children's birthday parties.

So if you're ever feeling nostalgic and feel like revisiting your childhood memories at Chuck E. Cheese, there are a few options (although I feel it wouldn't quite be the same without the masses of screaming children squirming around!)

My best friend died at the Rockford Illinois Chuck E. Cheese in the ball pit on September 16, 1995. It was at an overnight church lock in. That is not an urban legend. While there may be urban legends where the facts are not exactly true, but that dies not mean that stuff does not happen. It is not so funny when you remember his father sobbing and throwing himself on his son's casket every time a ball pit comes up.

I'm not trying to take you to task or anything. This story is extremely difficult to find information about. As the saying goes, its all fun and games until your friend dies. I can send you some newspaper articles about it if you would like. You seem to have an interest in research. They are available in the Rockford Register Star archives, but behind a pay wall.

I personally found a hypodermic needle in a Mcdonalds Ball pit as a kid in the late 90's. As kids we would shove our hands down to the bottom of the ball pit, often finding foreign objects like hair clips, pens and even cheap jewelry.

I couldnt have been the only one...
